Business

Severn is working to build a business community for tomorrow that can continue to grow and benefit the Township for years to come. Our Business page provides information regarding the community to businesses or families looking to work or live in Severn. Our Economic Development Officer initiates projects and assist with business attraction, retention, and expansion.

Economic Development in Severn

The top sectors by industry are:

  • Agriculture
  • Construction
  • Tourism/retail

Severn lies in the northern corner of the County of Simcoe, and is considered the gateway to the Canadian Shield. With transportation links to major markets, Severn is located only 90-minutes from Toronto and the Canadian National Railway provides the community with a direct link to the Brampton Intermodal Terminal.

Severn's population growth is strong and it is an attractive community to all ages for our safe and supportive community with easy access to outdoor recreation and the convenience of urban amenities in Orillia and the surrounding areas.

Community facilities include an indoor ice rink and five community centres, a curling club, a skateboard park, a pump track, three outdoor multi-use sport courts, pedestrian and bike trails, and many neighborhood parks.

Economic Development Strategy

The Economic Development Strategy (EDS) was approved by Council on April 3, 2024.

To better leverage our existing assets and to build a more sustainable local economy, the EDS identifies five strategic priorities to enhance growth in Severn over the next five years.

More specifically, these priorities include:

  1. Increase support of local businesses.
  2. Balance Severn’s tax base to support a diverse community.
  3. Enhance and promote local tourism.
  4. Match lifestyle amenities with residential growth.
  5. Safeguard community interests in relation to the aggregate industry.
