Wednesday, June 19: Public Meeting concerning the proposed new Official Plan

Township of Severn will be holding a hybrid public meeting on June 19, 2024 starting at 9:00 a.m. during the Planning and Development Committee meeting at our Administration Office (1024 Hurlwood Lane) to consider the re-adoption of the proposed new Official Plan under Section 26(3) and 17(17) of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990.

Wednesday, April 17: Zoning By-law Amendment and draft Plan of Subdivision

Severn held a hybrid public meeting on April 17, 2024, during the Planning and Development Committee meeting at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers at the Township’s Administration Office (1024 Hurlwood Lane) to consider the following Zoning By-law Amendment and draft Plan of Subdivision application under Section 34, 36, and 51 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990.

Wednesday, March 20: Site Alteration and Fill By-law update, and new Tree Conservation By-law

About the proposal

Severn is considering updates to our Site Alteration and Fill By-law (2011-23, as amended), and the development of a new, site-specific Tree Conservation By-law, in accordance with Sections 135 and 142 of the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25. Information from members of the public will help guide and inform the development of the proposed by-laws.

Next steps

Site Alteration and Fill By-law

The Township's consultant was directed by Council on April 3, 2024 to report back with any suggested modifications to the Site Alteration and Fill By-law in response to the comments provided at the public meeting and open house. Updates will be provided when available. Subscribe to this page to stay informed.

Tree Conservation By-law 

Based on a report back from our consultants regarding the proposed Tree Conservation By-law and the review of the comments provided by stakeholders at the public meeting and Open House, Council voted on April 3, 2024 to not proceed with the implementation of the proposed by-law. 

Wednesday, February 21: Zoning By-law Amendment to establish provisions for Floating Accommodations

Severn held a virtual Public Meeting as part of the Planning and Development Committee meeting on Wednesday, February 21 at 9:00 a.m. to consider a Zoning By-law Amendment under Section 34 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990. Learn more on our Floating Accommodations page.

Development charges

Township of Severn development charges apply to residential land that has been vacant for three or more years. The Simcoe County District School Board, the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, and County of Simcoe development charges apply to residential land that has been vacant for five or more years. Development charges assist in financing the long-term capital and operating costs for the infrastructure required to provide municipal services to the new development, including:

  • development related studies
  • long term care and seniors services
  • paramedic services
  • public works
  • roads and related maintenance
  • social housing
  • transit
  • waste management

You may need to pay development charges for new residential units or commercial, industrial and institutional floor space. These charges are paid at the time a building or planning permit is issued. View our Development Charges Background Study.

Addressing

Contact us if you have an issue with your current address, for example if:

We work with the County of Simcoe to maintain the 911 addressing system.
