Are you interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter with the Township of Severn? Firefighting is one of the most diverse and challenging professions known today. It is this diversity that inspires most individuals to enter the service, both as volunteers and career Firefighters. This diversity combined with that your skills may be needed at any time of day, seven days a week, in any kind of weather, and very often under potentially stressful and emotional circumstances, makes your contribution to the profession very personally rewarding.

How to apply
Please submit your application using our online form on our Job Postings page. We thank all applicants that apply but we'll only contact you if you're selected for an interview.
Minimum qualifications
To become a volunteer firefighter, you must meet the following qualifications:
- be capable of handling intense and sustained physical effort to complete a variety of tasks
- be able to speak and read in English
- be willing to participate in and successfully complete all assigned examinations and tests (i.e., written, oral and physical agility tests)
- acquire a class DZ driver's licence, at your expense, within six months of successfully completing our recruitment course

Required documents
You will be required to submit the following documents with your application:
- completed Application Form
- current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
- three-year driver's record
- completed Medical Form
- completed Consent and Waiver
Please contact us to request a copy of the letter you will need to submit as part of acquiring your VSC.
What you will receive as a Volunteer Firefighter
In addition to joining a team of committed professionals we will give you:
- $1,000 upon successful completion of the Recruit Course
- reimbursement of the medical cost for your application upon successful completion of the Recruit Course
- ongoing training and yearly honorarium

How do I submit my application? |

I did not attend the Recruitment Information Session. Can I still apply? |
Yes. Attendance at the Recruitment Information Session is not mandatory however it is strongly encouraged as it provides important information on the recruitment process, as well as expectations of firefighters. |
Does Severn Fire and Emergency Services cover the costs for any required documentation (Medical Examination, Driver’s Abstract)? |
Applicants are responsible for any costs incurred during the recruitment process. |
How many training hours are required to become a volunteer firefighter? |
All selected candidates are required to complete a recruit training program. There are three basic training programs:
