Township of Severn Declares Significant Weather Event
In response to the current and forecasted weather which may place the public at risk, Severn has declared a Significant Weather Event as per Regulation 239/02 of the Municipal Act. During a Significant Weather Event, all roadways and sidewalks are considered to be in a "state of repair" and may be unsafe to use.
Township of Severn has declared a Significant Weather Event as the weather forecasted and weather conditions include one or more of the following:
- significant snow accumulation during a 24-hour period
- ice formation that occurs with no warning from the weather forecast
- high winds leading to large snow drifts
- cold temperatures that will impact the effectiveness of deciding efforts
This declaration is not necessarily a notice of a reduced level of service or a road closure. The declaration is to notify the public that due to the current and forecasted conditions, caution should be used if travel is necessary, and that it may take longer than usual to bring the condition of the roads to a state of repair.
When the municipality has declared the event has ended, the standard timelines for winter maintenance activities will begin.
Severn will inform the community when the Significant Weather Event has ended by:
