Update: Status of road closures

Township of Severn has been actively working around the clock since Saturday to remove debris and downed trees from local roadways. Roadways that remain closed are those that have downed powerlines and are awaiting Hydro One clearance. Once Hydro One has cleared any powerlines and declared the area safe, Township staff will move in to clear the debris.

The Township is working in a coordinated effort with Hydro One. The closures are limited to those areas that require power line removals and repair. We understand that many residents have been impacted and are challenged with the task of cleaning up damage caused by the storm. To assist roads and hydro crews with continuing to clear debris and restore power, we are asking residents to please refrain from moving debris onto roads or shoulders. There will be opportunities to drop brush and yard waste off free of charge at County of Simcoe waste locations.

Mayor Mike Burkett, Township of Severn

As of 1:30 p.m. on April 1, the following roads are still closed:

  • Lakeside Drive at Cumberland Road
  • Brennan Line (between Cambrian Road to 400 metres south of Cambrian)
  • Riverdale Drive (from address 3647 to the dead end)
  • Confederation Drive (between Wainman Line to Kensington Place)
  • Warminster Sideroad (east of Fairgrounds (#2501 Warminster)
  • Fairgrounds Road (from address 3400, just south of Warminster Side Road and 200 metres north of Warminister)
  • Division Road East (between Hampshire Mills to Centre Avenue)
  • F.R. Nelson Road (between Ministry of Transportation Yard to County Road 16)
  • Silk Line (between County Road 17 to Laughlin Falls Road)
  • Burnside Line ( 300 metres north of Maple Valley to Jermey Road)
  • Town Line at 2918 Town Line
  • Beechwood Drive (at address 3304)

Due to the serious nature of electrical currents, only Hydro One or their licenced contractors have the authority to remove branches or downed trees near hydro lines. Hydro One has been made aware of the current downed trees and branches on powerlines within the Township. If additional trees or branches are affecting Hydro One lines, please call their 24/7 emergency hotline at 1-800-434-1235.

To support the cleanup from the March 30 ice storm that affected homes and businesses across the region, County of Simcoe waste drop-off sites will be accepting brush debris, free of charge, from March 31 through April 28, 2025. Timing and extensions will be determined as cleanups continue.

We thank our residents for your understanding ask that you continue to use caution when travelling.
