Tanker Shuttle Accreditation

Severn Fire and Emergency Services has Superior Tanker Shuttle Accreditation

Superior Tanker Shuttle Accreditation is a program of the Fire Underwriters Survey that recognizes a fire department’s ability to shuttle water by way of tanker trucks to fight fires in areas without municipal hydrants. This important accreditation means that the department can supply water to areas without hydrants just as effectively as areas with hydrants.

To achieve accreditation, the fire department must be able to provide a continual water supply more than the minimum requirement. This is done through testing and documentation. The test site must be completed within eight kilometers of the fire station(s) and must be at least five kilometers from the water fill site where the tankers are reloaded.

Achievements of the accreditation include:

  • flow rate of 2,300 litres per minute of water (exceeding the minimum requirement of 950 litres per minute)
  • maintaining the flow of water for two hours, uninterrupted.

What does this mean for residents?

Many insurance providers recognize Tanker Shuttle Accreditation. The accreditation may provide potential financial benefits to residents, as homes within the Township may be eligible for a reduction in insurance premiums as a result of the accreditation. Residents should contact their insurance agency directly to inquire if they qualify for a rate reduction.
