Job description

As a result of a vacancy, the Township of Severn is seeking applicants for the position of Municipal Law Enforcement Officer (MLEO) who is responsible for identifying, interpreting, and enforcing municipal by-laws, and assumes responsibilities involving specific services within the Municipal Law Enforcement department.

Rate of pay

The range of pay for this position is $38.13 to $44.62 per hour, for a 35-hour week. Hours of work will include afternoons, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. This is a rotating shift, shared with another MLEO.

Duties

As the Municipal Law Enforcement Officer, you will:

  • act as the Canine Control Officer, Licencing Officer, and Weed Inspector
  • be appointed as the Property Standards Officer with related duties
  • carry out patrols and inspections to ensure all dogs are properly tagged
  • complete parking enforcement and issuance of tickets
  • educate the public on a wide range of by-laws not limited to property standards, noise, parking, and canine control
  • enforce municipal by-laws and other applicable legislation
    engage in daily interactions with the public, other law enforcement agencies, legal and other government officials, and stakeholders
  • issue notices of violations, orders, Parts I, II, and III processes of the Public Offences Act
  • liaise with rescue organizations and other Animal Control Agencies
  • perform investigations related to by-law enforcement (interviews with the public and collection of evidence)
  • prepare court documentation and attendance before the courts and other tribunals to give evidence
  • respond as requested by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) to pick up and quarantine dogs that have bitten
  • respond to all complaints about dogs, including dog bites, and seize dogs found to be running at large and stray, confining dogs and delivering them to the shelter
  • respond to telephone and written inquiries and complaints and conduct investigations as needed

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • college diploma in a Law and Security program
  • minimum of two years of recent related experience, preferably in a rural municipal environment
  • experience in court litigation proceedings and the preparation and giving of evidence
  • ability to exercise discretion and tact, and to maintain confidentiality
  • ability to prioritize workload and to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
  • computer proficiency and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other municipal-related software programs
  • membership in the Ontario Property Standards Association
  • unrestricted G driver’s licence

Job description

We are hiring Roads Operators (two positions available): 

Reporting to the Public Works Foreperson, the Roads Operator position will be involved in a variety of maintenance and construction activities to support the Public Works department. This work will involve labour-related duties, equipment operation, and winter control operations.

Rate of pay

The rate of pay for this position is $31.73 to $37.14 per hour, for a 40-hour work week. Please note, on call is a mandatory provision of this position.

Duties

As the Roads Operator, you will assist with the following duties:

  • culvert cleaning
  • ditch maintenance
  • general debris and litter cleanup 
  • guide rail repair
  • operation of equipment including tandem axle dump trucks, rubber tire loaders, multi-use sidewalk machines, grader, excavator, chainsaws, chippers, etc.
  • road maintenance
  • road re-construction (e.g., ditching, graveling)
  • roadside maintenance
  • sidewalk repairs
  • sign assessment and installation
  • temporary traffic control including flagging traffic
  • traffic control
  • tree removal and trimming
  • winter control including snow removal activities such as on roadways and sidewalks

You will be required to:

  • respond to emergency situations as they arise
  • follow acceptable maintenance and servicing schedules 
  • perform general housekeeping duties

Qualifications

Successful candidates will require:

  • secondary school diploma
  • two years of truck driving experience, with a clear Ontario DZ driver’s abstract, ARZ would be preferred
  • one year of winter control operations, including plowing with a tandem plow and sander
  • two years of practical working experience in municipal operations
  • knowledge of the operation and maintenance of various types of equipment
  • excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, other employees, contractors, etc.
  • demonstrated heavy equipment experience will be considered an asset
  • demonstrated previous winter control operations will be considered an asset
  • demonstrated ability to abide by the Ontario Health and Safety legislation and follow Township Health and Safety policies

Job description

The Day Camp Site Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the camp, supervising and mentoring staff, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment, and providing an exceptional camp experience for children. The Day Camp Supervisors will ensure that programs run smoothly, safely and efficiently.

The rate of pay for this position is $20.01 per hour for up to a 40-hour work week.

Duties

The Day Camp Site Supervisor will:

  • oversee the planning and implementation of daily camp activities
  • supervise and support staff
  • monitor camper safety and well-being, responding to emergencies as needed
  • communicate regularly with parents to address concerns and provide updates on camp progress
  • complete necessary camp documentation, including attendance records and incident reports
  • provide leadership and mentorship to staff, ensuring a positive and cohesive team environment
  • ensure that camp policies, including safety protocols and program guidelines, are followed at all times
  • serve as an ambassador for the Township of Severn by displaying a heightened sense of customer service
  • perform the duties associated with the Day Camp Counsellor position when required 
  • perform other related duties, as assigned, that are in accordance with job responsibilities and/or necessary departmental or corporate objectives

Education and experience

Applicants should demonstrate in their resume that they possess:

  • a minimum of one to two years of experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting
  • the ability to supervise and motivate staff in a dynamic camp environment
  • strong leadership, communication, independent decision-making, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
  • strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • the ability to work in all weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors

Experience or certifications in Behaviour Management Systems, Safe Management, or Crisis Prevention and Intervention are regarded as valuable assets. Prior experience working with children or youth with disabilities will also be viewed as an advantage.

Required certifications

Successful candidates will require:

  • valid Standard First Aid CPR/AED Level C certification (or ability to obtain before the camp season begins)
  • a Vulnerable Sector Screening through a Criminal Records Check is required
