Permits are also available for purchase at the Administration Office (1024 Hurlwood Lane) Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Fire permits are required for any open air burning. Fire Chief Ritch Lowell reminds residents to follow safe burning practices.

“Before setting a fire, ensure there are sufficient adults present to control the fire and enough water or equipment to extinguish the fire completely. Burn clean, seasoned wood in a fire pit no larger than 61 centimetres in diameter. Fires must be at least six metres from combustible structures or objects and should be supervised at all times."

- Ritch Lowell, Fire Chief / Director of Fire and Emergency Services

Once approved, you can only burn clean dry wood with either permit. Please do not burn leaves or garden waste in an open-air fire. Instead, you can dispose of yard waste through County of Simcoe's yard waste and leaf pick up program, or at a one of their waste facilities

"Fire permits help ensure that fire is used safely. A permit sets out the rules around what can be burned and how the fire should be maintained and extinguished. It also lets our staff and firefighters know that there will be a fire in the area. This allows us to be on alert for any problems and to reassure neighbours or other members of the community who may call concerning smoke."

- Jake Hawkins, Fire Prevention Officer

Always check the fire rating before starting a fire. Signs have been placed throughout Severn to show the current fire rating. Burning is not permitted during a fire ban.
