Severn, Ontario: Township of Severn has announced Becky Breedon as the municipalities' first Economic Development Officer. Becky is taking on this newly created role to lead the implementation of Severn's Economic Development Strategy, including initiatives to support local businesses and welcome investments that complement and respect the Township's rural character.

Before joining the Township of Severn, Becky was with the Town of New Tecumseth as their Economic Development Officer, where she led the department in initiatives related to business attraction and community development for two years. Prior to that Becky held an Economic Development Officer position for over seven years with the County of Simcoe, and she has  worked in the economic development field at the Towns of Innisfil and Ingersoll. In these roles, Becky was responsible for conducting business retention and expansion initiatives, special events management, and was also actively supporting the entrepreneurship sector.

Becky is a graduate from the University of Western Ontario where she also obtained her graduate diploma in Public Relations. In 2013, Becky received her Economic Development (Ec.D.) and Certified Economic Development (CEcD) designations from the Economic Developers Association of Canada and the International Economic Development Council along with her diploma in Municipal Administration from the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario. Becky is an active member with the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) and co-chairs the Professional Development Committee that provides regional training opportunities and scholarships.

About the Economic Development Strategy

The Economic Development Strategy provides guidance to the Township on economic development priorities over the next five years.

These priorities include:

  1. Increase support of local businesses.
  2. Balance Severn’s tax base to support a diverse community.
  3. Enhance and promote local tourism.
  4. Match lifestyle amenities with residential growth.
  5. Safeguard community interests in relation to the aggregate industry.
