Fall Recreation update

As the leaves start to change and the air turns crisp, Severn has a variety of events and programs lined up with something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you're looking to attend community events, get skating, or participate in special Halloween activities, we've got you covered.

Ice surface at the Coldwater Community Centre to be ready for use in early October

The ice surface will be installed and ready for skating at the Coldwater Community Centre (11 Michael Anne Drive) on October 7. If you're looking to book the ice for a tournament or pick up hockey, or the upstairs hall for events and activities such as birthday parties and engagement celebrations, please email recreation@severn.ca to submit a booking request. You can also view our Recreation calendar and check availability.

Skating programs will start on Tuesday, October 8.

We offer a variety of times and programs for all ages, including:

  • Moms, pops, and tots (Parents and caregivers with children ages eight and under )
  • Seniors skate (ages 55 plus)
  • Seniors shinny (ages 55 plus)
  • Regular shinny (ages 18 to 54 years)
  • Homeschool skate (pre-schoolers and home school families)
  • Public skating (all ages)

Promote your business or services by sponsoring a public skate

Thank you to our generous local businesses and service clubs for sponsoring public skating during the 2023 to 2024 ice season and making some sessions free for families and participants.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for Sunday's from October 13 to March 2025. Some dates are also available during the winter holiday season and March Break 2025.

Shuffleboard returns October 8

Now that summer is winding down, shuffleboard is back beginning Tuesday, October 8, in the upstairs hall at the Coldwater Community Centre (11 Michael Anne Drive). Ease into the fall season with a blend of friendly competition and community spirit. For the first three weeks, shuffleboard will be available in two time slots—one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
  • When: October 8, 2024 to October 22, 2024 
  • Day: Tuesdays 
  • Time: 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
  • Fees: $1.50 
Starting October 29, a new drop-in time will take effect. 
  • When: October 29, 2024 to April 29, 2025 
  • Day: Tuesdays 
  • Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 
  • Fees:  
    • Full day: $3.00 
    • Half day: $1.50

JumpFit for Beginners 

In this 45-minute inclusive JumpFit class for beginners, participants will start with a gentle stretch and warm-up. The class then moves into skill-building exercises, where they'll learn the fundamentals of jump rope techniques, progressing from basic jumps to more advanced moves as they gain confidence. The core of the session is a dynamic workout that incorporates jump rope, designed to boost cardiovascular health, coordination, and overall fitness. 
  • When:  September 25 to October 30, 2024 

  • Day and time:  Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. 

  • Program code: A1002
  • Fees: Adult: $90.00 plus HST |Senior: $67.50 plus HST 

JumpFit HIIT

Elevate your workout routine with this new JumpFit HIIT workout class. These short but high-energy sessions combine the dynamic, full-body benefits of jump rope with the effectiveness of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) combining intense bursts of exercise with short, active recovery periods to boost cardiovascular endurance, build strength, and burn calories.

Where: Washago Community Centre (4361 Hamilton Street)

When: October 21 to November 25, 2024

Day and time: Mondays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Program code: A1002

Fees: Adult: $75.00 plus HST | Senior: $56.25 plus HST

Not able to commit to a full 6-weeks? No problem! JumpFit HIIT will be offering a drop-in option at a discounted rate where you can still enjoy the program without the worry of missing any classes.

Fee: $8.00 per class

Youth programs

Our Recreation, Parks, and Facilities department offers a variety of youth recreation programs for children between the ages of 6 and 12. We hope to continue to grow our program options and provide our community with what they need to stay active and fit. Explore the program options and select one that interests you. 

JumpFit for Kids (ages 7 to 10 years)
Get ready to jump, skip, and hop into fun! Designed for energetic kids, this class combines fitness and fun in a high-energy environment. Your child will learn the basics of jump rope techniques and through playful games and friendly competitions, they'll improve their coordination, agility, and cardiovascular fitness while building confidence and teamwork skills. 
Our certified youth fitness instructor is passionate about keeping kids active and engaged, ensuring each session is packed with exciting challenges and encouragement. This class emphasizes the importance of a healthy lifestyle and fosters a love for physical activity that can last a lifetime.

  • Day and time:  Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Day of Frights: P.A. Day Camp (ages 6 to 9 years) 

Get ready for a thrilling adventure at our Day of Frights P.A. Day Camp! Designed for children aged 6 to 9 years of age, this Halloween-themed camp promises a day full of spooky fun and creativity.

Campers will dive into a variety of themed crafts, participate in exciting activities, and enjoy a delicious pizza lunch. To top off the day, each child will receive a special Halloween treat to take home.

Whether your little one loves ghosts, goblins, or pumpkins, this camp is the perfect way to celebrate the Halloween spirit in a safe and fun environment.

  • Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Please note: If your child has any food allergies, be sure to include that information during registration, as the camp will include pizza and a special treat.

Haunted Craft Hour

Get ready for a spooky twist on crafting! Join the Washago Art Club for a fun and creative Halloween-themed session where you'll dive into a variety of eerie and exciting crafts. All materials will be provided for you to design your very own spooky masterpieces.

This family-friendly event is perfect for artists of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're crafting ghosts, bats, or haunted scenes, your creations will be a unique addition to your Halloween decor. Come dressed in your favourite costumes to add to the festive atmosphere and enjoy a fun-filled, spooky crafting experience!

  • When: Saturday, October 26, 2024
  • Time: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
  • Fee: Free

The program runs for an hour, but you can drop in at any point during that time. The craft typically takes around 20 minutes to complete, so feel free to join when it’s most convenient for you.

Registration is required to ensure we have enough supplies for everyone.

Monster Manor Workshop

Join us for a Monster Manor Workshop that’s perfect for the whole family.

In this fun-filled program, kids and parents will work together to create their very own edible haunted houses using yummy treats. From designing spooky windows to adding candy ghosts, you’ll have a blast bringing your haunted masterpiece to life.

Come dressed in your favorite Halloween costumes to add to the festive fun!

The best part? Once Halloween is over, you can enjoy your spooky creation as a tasty treat—if you're brave enough to take a bite!

If time allows, we’ll craft an additional Halloween-themed project. All materials are provided, so just bring your creativity and Halloween spirit.

Community recreation survey results

Earlier this year, we asked our community for feedback and ideas on the needs for recreation programs and services in Severn.  

Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent survey. We received an incredible 295 responses! Your feedback is invaluable in helping us shape the future of recreation and culture in our community.

Upcoming events in Severn 

Coldwater Fall Fair: September 27 to 29

Head to the Coldwater Fairgrounds (11 Michael Anne Drivefrom Friday, September 27 to Sunday, September 29 for the Coldwater Fall Fair, a beloved annual tradition. This year’s theme is "Rubber Boots and Country Roots," and the fair promises a weekend full of family-friendly fun. The event will feature a variety of activities, including the:
  • Sheep Show
  • Rabbit and Cavy Show
  • Junior Scarecrow and Dog Competitions
  • Domestic Science contests,
  • Junior Fire Fit Challenge by Severn Fire and Emergency Services department
  • and much more.

Coldwater Witches Walk: October 18

Dress up in your best witchy attire and join the Coldwater BIA for an spooktacular evening of fun, shopping, music, and community spirit. The Witches Walk is a street fair style adult-only event (19 plus) that promises a bewitching good time with plenty of surprises. Contact the Coldwater BIA by email for more information.

Trick or Treat Main Street: October 19
Bring the family for a fun-filled day of trick-or-treating along Main Street. Enjoy a safe and festive atmosphere as local businesses hand out treats to costumed children. It’s a delightful event that brings Halloween magic to life.
