Project update: Bass Lake Woodlands wells

CORRECTION: Well construction for the Bass Lake Water Supply and Distribution system remains ongoing. Project updates will continue to be provided.

However, the water ban has been lifted and seasonal watering restrictions are now in effect starting August 12 until November 1, 2024 for the Bass Lake Woodlands subdivision. Water for Bass Lake Woodlands comes from three ground water wells which service approximately 450 residents of the community.

Details of seasonal watering restrictions

In this effort to conserve water resources, the Township of Severn By-law No. 2006-75 to Regulate Water and Sewer Service Areas places the following restrictions in effect for the Bass Lake Woodlands and all areas serviced by municipal water and wastewater.

Water supply restrictions[1]

If you live at an:

  • even numbered address, you can water your lawn on even-numbered days
  • odd numbered address, you can water your lawn on odd-numbered days

You can water from the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. only.

Penalties

The set fine per offence is $200. Our Municipal Law Enforcement Officers will be actively enforcing this notice.

Conservation tips

Here are some tips to help you conserve water:

  • don't overwater your lawn (only requires 2.5 cm of water per week)
  • avoid watering your lawn during the hottest part of the day to limit evaporation
  • only run your dishwasher and washing machines when fully loaded
  • invest in water and energy-saving units
  • invest in water-saving fixtures, such as low-flow toilets and water-wise showerheads
  • use a broom instead of a hose to clean sidewalks and driveways
  • cover your swimming pool to limit evaporation by 90%

Township of Severn is committed to reducing water use, loss, and waste. We promote water conservation and encourage you to do your part to help reduce water usage and protect our water for generations to come.
