Coldwater Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion
Township of Severn has hired Tatham Engineering Limited to undertake a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for proposed upgrades to the Coldwater Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and the Main Sewage Pumping Station (SPS), located on Upper Big Chute Road as shown in the map below.
The Class EA will identify and evaluate options for expanding the wastewater pumping and treatment capacity to accommodate anticipated growth in Coldwater.
About the Class Environmental Assessment
The Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) establishes a planning and approval process for a variety of municipal infrastructure projects.
The Class EA will be completed in accordance with the Schedule C requirements of the Municipal Engineers Association (MEA) Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000, amended in 2007, 2011, and 2015).
Public and stakeholder consultation
Notices
The Notice of Study Commencement presents the project and invites the public and stakeholders to offer comments and to participate in the study.
The Notice of Study completion will announce the completion of the project and invite stakeholders to review and comment on the final Class EA Report.
Public Information Centre No.1
A Public Information Centre (PIC) was held in-person and virtually on June 1 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Coldwater Community Centre, 11 Michael Ann Drive.

- preliminary recommendations

Next steps
Following PIC No. 1 and upon review of comments, the preferred solution will be selected, and alternative design concepts for the preferred solution will be developed and evaluated.

How long will the Class EA take? |
The project duration will depend on the schedule, the potential impacts of the project, and the level of consultation required. Typically, a Schedule C Class EA is completed within 18 to 24 months, but it can take longer. |
What happens after the approval of the Class EA Study Report? |
After the final Class EA Study Report has been approved, the project will proceed to the implementation phase, which includes the detailed design and construction phases of the expansion of the Coldwater Wastewater Treatment Plant. |
