Couchiching OPP Detachment Board
As a result of the changes to the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA), the newly formed Couchiching O.P.P. Detachment Board was formed, encompassing the City of Orillia and the Townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara, and Severn.
This independent Civilian Oversight Board, with its provincial responsibilities, as outlined in the CSPA, is committed to ensuring adequate and effective policing in response to the needs of the area.
The Board will foster accountability and transparency by acting as the intermediary to the O.P.P and to the community, making evidence-based decisions and following best practices.
Responsibilities
The role and responsibilities of the Board include:
- participating in the selection of the Detachment Commander
- determining objectives and priorities for police services after consultation with the Detachment Commander
- advising the Detachment Commander with respect to policing provided by the Detachment
- monitoring the performance of the Detachment Commander
- reviewing regular reports from the Detachment Commander regarding policing services
- providing an annual report to member municipalities about the the policing services
Board composition
The Board is comprised of elected officials and community members from the City of Orillia and the Townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara, and Severn, and two provincial appointees.
Meetings
The O.P.P Detachment Board meets a minimum of four times per year. Additional meetings are at the discretion of the chair.
